First, you have to find out what caused it. There are many possible causes:
- H. Pylori bacteria. Ask your doctor to test you for this.
- Overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like aspirin, celebrex, ibuprofen (advil, motrin), meloxicam, naproxen (aleve)
- Use of other medications like Fosamax for osteoporosis and potassium supplements
- Smoking increases risk of ulcers if you already have H. pylori
- Drinking alcohol which can erode the lining of the stomach
- Long term chronic stress
Next, it’s time to take action. Take the logical step to address your most probable cause from the list above.
- Get rid of that H.Pylori! Your MD can prescribe antibiotics for this. Alternatively, a Naturopathic physician can prescribe supplements for this and a Chinese herbalist can prescribe the appropriate herbal formula (there is no one size fits all in Chinese herbalism).
- Stop the use of NSAIDs. You’re likely taking them for pain, so get acupuncture instead which can help get to the root of the pain in the first place.
- Give up the alcohol!

- Take Gastrazyme by Biotics Research which is Vitamin U which comes from cabbage juice. It heals the lining of the stomach. Take 3 tablets with each meal.
- Get tested for Vitamin B12 deficiency if you’ve used acid blockers for longer than 2 weeks. Original intended use of acid blocking drugs was no more than 2 weeks yet many doctors allow refills for years on end.
- Consume Gelatin, preferably in the form of bone broth.
